Neck Lift

Procedure

A neck lift is a combination of surgical procedures in which excess fat and skin are removed and neck muscles are altered to restore a firm, sleek appearance to the neck. We perform the surgery in our office with the patient under general anesthesia. If the procedure is combined with a face lift – which is typical – you will likely be in surgery for 2 hours or more. Liposuction is usually part of the overall neck lift, although we also offer Smartlipo™ for the neck as a stand-alone procedure.

Smartlipo™ for the Neck

We now offer Smartlipo to patients who want fat removed from their necks without undergoing a neck lift. Smartlipo is a minimally invasive surgery performed with a wand-like laser. Inserted through an incision about the size of a pen tip, the laser heats up and liquefies the fat, which is then gently suctioned from the neck. The procedure is done using a local anesthetic, and typically results in much less bruising and swelling than traditional liposuction. Patients can usually resume their normal routines within 2 to 3 days.

Recovery

We schedule a follow-up appointment the day after surgery to ensure there are no complications. You will have your sutures removed a week after the surgery and return for an additional appointment 1 month later under normal circumstances. Most patients take about 2 weeks before resuming their normal activities. Swelling and bruising are normal following a neck lift. The bruising will likely remain for up to 2 weeks.
