Placing a chin implant involves making an incision just beneath the chin in a natural skin crease. The surgical grade implant is gently inserted through the incision and adjusted to achieve the desired contour. In most cases, a chin implant can be performed in-office under local anesthesia.
Patients who get chin augmentation sometimes combine the procedure with other facial cosmetic surgery, especially rhinoplasty. Combining chin implants with a nose job can dramatically improve your profile.
Recovery
Tenderness and swelling are normal and common when recovering from chin augmentation surgery. Some patients experience temporary numbness. You might feel a stretched, tight sensation which usually is gone after about a week. Swelling will gradually resolve over a few weeks. Patients should limit physical activity for about 2 weeks. Sutures are removed after a week and follow-up appointments are scheduled for a month and 3 months after surgery.
