Treatment Options

Identifying the cause of your sore throat will dictate the most appropriate treatment. Sore throats are usually caused by viruses and resolve with symptomatic therapy only; in some cases, a primary care physician will prescribe antibiotics.

Recurrent or persistent sore throats, with or without hoarseness, should be examined by an ENT specialist

Tonsillectomy: Tonsillectomy remains an effective solution when the tonsils frequently become infected and antibiotic therapy fails to resolve the infections. Tonsillectomy is often combined with adenoidectomy.
